Toilet pans were replaced with new junior (lower) toilets, as they were too high for junior school children. Similarly, hand basins in both toilet areas were too high for junior school children and had push button taps, which were difficult for them to operate. These were replaced with new hand basins mounted lower with lever type tap mixers.
Boys’ toilets in particular were consistently smelly, and while lower toilets would help this problem to an extent, it was proposed to install extractor fans in all toilet cubicles as part of this upgrade.
As a power saving benefit both sets of fans are connected to a sensor on a timer, 1 in each toilet area, so that they operate automatically and are not running continuously.
