Enhancing Classroom Acoustics

The focus of this classroom renovation project was on finding an effective solution for reducing noise reverberation at Eastern Montessori school.

Eastern Montessori staff and pupils reported uncomfortably high noise levels during teaching activities, which resulted in students having difficulty understanding and concentrating, so required a solution to reduce the sound reverberation inside the room.

We arranged for a Classroom Reverberations Report which sited poor acoustics from a lack of sound-absorbing surface finishes in the classrooms being the predominant cause. In collaboration with Autex Acoustics, we had the current reverberation times calculated and devised the best way forward to reduce these times in line with the Ministry of Education guidelines.

By installing Quietspace panels to the ceiling and 10mm AUTEX Composition wall linings to the two end walls the reduction was substantial in bringing the noise to a suitable level. We installed 2mm AUTEX Vertiface wall lining to the two long walls in order to make the space uniform, rather than having old wall linings on half the walls, this reduced the cost of installation, increased the acoustic performance of the space and created a modern brighter classroom environment.

Since installing the wall linings and ceiling panels feedback from staff and students has confirmed a significant reduction in noise reverberation.

How can we help?
