Steel Canopy And Deck Building – Expanding The Outdoor Area
This project aimed to improve an outdoor-indoor flow in one of the St Mary's Catholic School's buildings. The existing deck wasn't meeting the requirements for size and safety; it also lacked any permanent cover. The decision was made to build a larger deck with an expansive canopy. Apart from deck building, we were also entrusted with constructing a new school entrance gate.
The first on the agenda was removing the existing structure and concrete and building a durable frame for the deck canopy. Designed by engineers, the frame was made of heavy, quality beams requiring careful handling by specialised cranes.
The next step was deck building and installing new stacker and hinged doors to the school’s building to enhance the outdoor-indoor flow. The design of the large new deck incorporated multiple wide steps children can sit on during school breaks while sheltered from the elements by the large canopy. To ensure the durability we used Vitex – a quality, hard-wearing wood.
A decent-sized shelter was also incorporated into the design of the new entrance gate. The end result is a welcoming gateway, enhancing the educational environment of the school.
Canopy and deck building this size is not a school holiday project. We have H&S systems in place to ensure we create a safe environment for our team and the students and teachers. Our strategies are certified by Site Wise; we are proud to have received a green grading for 2023-2024.
Thank you, St Mary’s Catholic School, for trusting us with this project.
